Cumin Cyminum

Cuminum cyminum

An upright, slender shrub with light green branches that requires hot summer temperatures and well drained soil.

Growing Tips: Prefers a well drained location. It is an annual and should be grown in an open position and the seed harvested when the plant starts to die off in late autumn. It is easy to grow needing little attention.

Use: This is another of those versatile herbs that have multiple uses. It is an ancient herb dating back to Roman times and is one of the three most widely used spices in the world. It is popular in curries, Mexican, middle eastern food and is even used in some Dutch cheeses. Mix with ground coriander, black pepper and paprika for home made taco mix. It is believed to help with food digestion and, like most fresh herbs and spices aid in avoiding cancer.

Harvest: Seed harvested when the plant starts to die off in late autumn.
