Eggplant Striped

Solanum melongena 'Tsakoniki'

An attractive perennial shrub with colorful striped purple fruit that is very popular with southern Greek community. 

Growing Tips: Plant in well drained but moist soil in sunny aspect. Avoid frosty areas.

Lifespan: Perennial

Use: Use in curries and stews. Also excellent baked as a side dish or by itself. Marinade in olive oil and mixed herbs then slow bake or fry as a steak, Slice then rub with salt and garlic. Bake then place in olive oil and serves as antipasto.

Harvest: Harvest when fruit is in full - usually after mid summer.
