Tomato Heirloom Broad Ripple Yellow Currant
Common name (s): Broad Ripple Yellow Currant Tomato
Description: Masses of delicious, golden current like tomatoes that are both decorative and good eating.
Flavours/Food Partners: Fresh tomatoes are enhanced by herbs like coriander parsley, chives and celery leaf. These dainty fruits make zesty snacks eaten raw like grapes, add a splash of color to a traditional green salad or as an edible garnish to a large cheese platter.
Health/Cooking/Medicinal: Like all tomatoes, Broad Ripple Yellow Currant is high in the cancer fighting agent, Lycopene and Vitamin C. Serve in salads, stirfries or mixed with grapes and cashews for an unusual snack.
Landscaping/Planting: Plant in an airy, sunny position in well drained soil or very large pots. Requires a 1.2 to 1.5m stake or can be espaliered.
Cultivation/Fertiliser: Like all tomatoes it must receive a deep soaking when almost dry and should not receive overhead watering. Feed regularly with Seasol and Powerfeed. A small amount of dolomite lime after planting will make stronger plants. Remove side shoots and develop two or three main leaders. Harvest as fruit ripens.
